🏛️ Meet the New Trustees
The IFRS Foundation has just announced the appointment of two heavyweights to their board of Trustees: Joong-Kyung Choi and Yaprak Baltacioglu. These appointments will be effective from January 1, 2026, and are set for a three-year term. The Trustees play a crucial role in the governance, strategy, and oversight of the Foundation and its two standard-setting boards—the International Accounting Standards Board (IASB) and the International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB).
🌟 Joong-Kyung Choi's Impressive Resume
Joong-Kyung Choi has a stellar background, having served as the Minister of Trade, Industry & Energy and the First Vice Minister of Finance and Economy in South Korea. He was also the Chief Economic Policy Advisor to former South Korean President MB Lee. From 2016 to 2020, he was the President of the Korean Institute of Certified Public Accountants, where he introduced the 2017 Accounting Reform Act to enhance auditor independence. He has also served as an Ambassador to the Philippines and as an Executive Director at the World Bank Group. Choi is an Emeritus Professor at Korea University and holds a PhD in economics from the University of Hawaii Manoa.
🌐 Yaprak Baltacioglu's Diverse Experience
Yaprak Baltacioglu brings a wealth of experience in national policy development and organizational leadership. Currently, she serves as an Independent Director at Deloitte Canada and Chile, and as a Director at MDA Space and the CSA Group. Her career in Ottawa, Canada, includes roles such as Secretary of the Treasury Board and Deputy Minister of several ministries. She is also a Member of the Order of Canada and holds a Master's degree from Carleton University. Her extensive non-executive director expertise makes her an invaluable addition to the IFRS Foundation.
