David Saltiel, the SEC's Acting Director of the Division of Trading and Markets, will bid farewell to the agency on July 4, 2025. Saltiel, who stepped into the Acting Director's shoes in December 2024 and had a brief stint in 2021, has been a stalwart in the SEC's leadership lineup.
"I want to thank David for his wise counsel since I became Chairman," said Chairman Paul S. Atkins. "David's contributions have made our markets stronger. The SEC will lose an outstanding resource; nevertheless, I wish him the very best in his next pursuits."

Mr. Saltiel's resume boasts a string of achievements that have fortified the SEC's mission. From equity and derivatives market structure topics to transparency and disclosure initiatives, Saltiel's work has been pivotal.

During his tenure, Saltiel was consistently recognized for his leadership and expertise, bagging the Commission's Excellence in Leadership Award in 2020. His strategic mindset and commitment to data-driven policymaking have left an indelible mark on the SEC.
"David's departure is a loss for the Commission, but he leaves the Division a legacy of culture and capabilities that will benefit our team for years to come," said Jamie Selway, the newly appointed Director of the Division of Trading and Markets.
🎓 The Man Behind the Title
Saltiel's journey to the SEC is as impressive as his tenure. He served as a Deputy Director since November 2021 and as Associate Director of the Division's Office of Analytics and Research since 2016. Before joining the SEC, he was the first Chief Economist at the Municipal Securities Rulemaking Board. Saltiel's academic credentials include a degree from Williams College and a master's in economics from St. Antony's College at the University of Oxford.
